Handfasting wedding ceremonies
A beautiful way to represent two lives being joined: meaningful words, a ribbon or cord, and a moment that belongs to you.
Discuss your date ↗What is handfasting?
Handfasting is a symbolic ceremony in which a couple’s hands are gently bound together with ribbon or cord while vows or promises are spoken. It can be traditional, contemporary, romantic or wonderfully individual.
Build it around your story
Choose ribbons with personal meaning, invite family members to place a cord, or incorporate handfasting into a wider celebrant-led wedding ceremony.
Meaningful, not complicated
I’ll talk through the options and write the words around the ritual. We can rehearse who holds the cords, how they’re arranged and what happens afterwards, so it feels natural on the day.
Good to know.
Is handfasting legally binding?
Handfasting is a symbolic ritual. In England and Wales, a legally recognised marriage requires the appropriate separate legal process.
Can family members help with the ribbons?
Yes. Loved ones can place a ribbon or read a short passage if you’d like.
Do we need to follow a particular tradition?
Not unless you want to. Your ceremony can respect a tradition or be an entirely modern interpretation.
Let’s make it yours.
Tell me your date, your plans and what you have in mind. I’ll help you work out the right service and next steps.
